What does MUKOOMI mean?
The name MUKOOMI is a play on the Japanese words mukou (向こう) - beyond and miru (見る) - to see. It means to see beyond typical beauty expectations, see beyond divides physical or metaphorical.
The name was inspired by founder Priyanka Yoshikawa’s life as a mixed-race person growing up in Japan. MUKOOMI wants everyone to have the ability to see and reach far beyond what external limitations may hamper us from achieving our greatness.
Who is behind MUKOOMI?
Priyanka Yoshikawa is the founder and CEO of MUKOOMI. She’s a half Japanese, half Indian entrepreneur, CBD user, Miss World Japan 2016 winner, and a passionate advocate for diversity.
What’s the difference between MUKOOMI and other CBD brands?
While many other products accessible on the Japanese market are targeted towards ethnic Japanese, MUKOOMI is different, with Priyanka’s first-hand experience being mixed-race, she’s created a line that’s tailored to both Japanese and background-diverse customers.
MUKOOMI’s ethos is based around inclusivity and diversity. The brand is small, transparent and independently-run, which means if you have any questions or concerns, you can speak to the creators directly. We care about you as an individual and a friend, not just another customer.
What is CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally forming compound found in the cannabis plant. It’s just one of the hundreds of phytocannabinoids - also known simply as cannabinoids - found in the cannabis plant. A cannabinoid can be manufactured artificially, however CBD is naturally occurring, and it’s a safe, non-addictive substance. How a cannabinoid works is it reacts with the human body’s cell-signalling system, known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
How the ECS works exactly is still being studied by scientists, but we have learned that the ECS is a big influence on crucial human functions, including sleep, stress, appetite, mood, memory, and even reproduction and fertility.
What’s the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD is often confused with and linked to THC, the compound in marijuana that makes users feel high. It’s also the compound that makes marijuana illegal in Japan, but CBD and THC are two very different entities. While both compounds have relaxing and mood-elevating effects, studies confirm CBD reacts to the human body in a very different way to THC. CBD will never leave a consumer feeling ‘high’ or ‘stoned.’
Is CBD legal?
By itself, CBD has no psychoactive elements like THC, which means it is legal in Japan! However, if you are purchasing a CBD product from overseas, be diligent, as some overseas companies sell CBD products (mainly oils) that also contain a small level of THC. If you want to make sure what you’re purchasing is legal in Japan, you can rest assured that all MUKOOMI CBD products have been checked and contain no THC, making them perfectly safe and legal.
Are MUKOOMI products third-party certified?
Yes. Our CBD oil is registered with the Cannabinoid Examination Committee of the Japan Cosmetics Association and has been given the third-party tick of approval. Click here for details.
How do I know how much CBD to take?
The answer to this question varies from person to person. There’s no single answer, but there are a few guidelines and tips we’d suggest you follow. CBD comes in so many different forms, from lotions and skincare products to shampoos, chocolates, vapes, capsules, gummies, and the most common, oils. For topical products like lotions, you can just use as you would any other non-CBD product.
In terms of consumable products - like oil - there are a few ways to take it. You can add CBD oil to water, tea, in food or smoothies or simply drop it under your tongue.
If you’re new to CBD oil, start small, with MUKOOMI CBD which is 900mg, we suggest you start with just 1 or 2 drops for the initial weeks, and work your way up until you find a level that works best with your lifestyle. You cannot overdose on CBD, but listen to your body and take it slowly to find the best effect for you. Listen to your body and take more only if you feel it necessary. After a little while, you should be able to find your ‘CBD sweet spot’.
We’ve written a detailed feature post on the different levels of CBD and how to use, it which you read over on our blog. Good, trustworthy CBD will always make clear how many milligrams (mg) of CBD are in the bottle.

IS your CBD ethically tested?
Yes! Our CBD is not tested on animals.
Is MUKOOMI CBD Full-Spectrum,Broad-spectrum or CBD Isolate?
There are three main variations of CBD:
- CBD isolate
- Full-spectrum CBD
- Broad-spectrum CBD
MUKOOMI is CBD isolate.
CBD isolate is THC-free. The CBD is completely isolated from the other cannabinoids and compounds of the plant. It’s 99 percent pure CBD. MUKOOMI’s CBD oil is CBD isolate. It’s the best for those just starting out.
We’ve covered this question in a feature over on our blog, so pop by there for a more in-depth look.
How long until I should start feeling the effects of the CBD?
The effect CBD has varies from individual to individual. CBD isn’t the immediate solution to your ailments, but rather far less about immediate effects and more about cumulative benefits which reward longer-term users. The best analogy is to consider CBD to be like a dietary supplement, something that works over time.
When taken sublingually (under the tongue) CBD takes about 10 minutes to an hour to be absorbed by the body, but studies have shown that it can take up to four to six weeks to fully realize the benefits of CBD.
What’s the expiry date of Mukoomi’s CBD oil?
The optimal shelf life of Mukoomi CBD oil is two years.
