FAQ
The name MUKOOMI is a play on the Japanese words mukou (向こう) - beyond and miru (見る) - to see. It means to see beyond typical beauty expectations, see beyond divides physical or metaphorical.
The name was inspired by founder Priyanka Yoshikawa’s life as a mixed-race person growing up in Japan. MUKOOMI wants everyone to have the ability to see and reach far beyond what external limitations may hamper us from achieving our greatness.
Priyanka Yoshikawa is the founder and CEO of MUKOOMI. She’s a half Japanese, half Indian entrepreneur, CBD user, Miss World Japan 2016 winner, and a passionate advocate for diversity.
While many other products accessible on the Japanese market are targeted towards ethnic Japanese, MUKOOMI is different, with Priyanka’s first-hand experience being mixed-race, she’s created a line that’s tailored to both Japanese and background-diverse customers.
MUKOOMI’s ethos is based around inclusivity and diversity. The brand is small, transparent and independently-run, which means if you have any questions or concerns, you can speak to the creators directly. We care about you as an individual and a friend, not just another customer.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally forming compound found in the cannabis plant. It’s just one of the hundreds of phytocannabinoids - also known simply as cannabinoids - found in the cannabis plant. A cannabinoid can be manufactured artificially, however CBD is naturally occurring, and it’s a safe, non-addictive substance. How a cannabinoid works is it reacts with the human body’s cell-signalling system, known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
How the ECS works exactly is still being studied by scientists, but we have learned that the ECS is a big influence on crucial human functions, including sleep, stress, appetite, mood, memory, and even reproduction and fertility.
CBD is often confused with and linked to THC, the compound in marijuana that makes users feel high. It’s also the compound that makes marijuana illegal in Japan, but CBD and THC are two very different entities. While both compounds have relaxing and mood-elevating effects, studies confirm CBD reacts to the human body in a very different way to THC. CBD will never leave a consumer feeling ‘high’ or ‘stoned.’
Unlike THC, CBD is a non-psychoactive ingredient and is therefore legal in Japan. However, in recent years, as the number of countries that legally allow THC intake is increasing, some CBD products sold overseas contain THC. MUKOOMI's products use safe CBD that meets the inspection standards based on Japanese law, so you can use it with confidence. We also inspect our CBD oil through a third party in the United States.
