The name MUKOOMI is a play on the Japanese words mukou (向こう) - beyond and miru (見る) - to see. It means to see beyond typical beauty expectations, see beyond divides physical or metaphorical.
The name was inspired by founder Priyanka Yoshikawa’s life as a mixed-race person growing up in Japan. MUKOOMI wants everyone to have the ability to see and reach far beyond what external limitations may hamper us from achieving our greatness.
Priyanka Yoshikawa is the founder and CEO of MUKOOMI. She’s a half Japanese, half Indian entrepreneur, CBD user, Miss World Japan 2016 winner, and a passionate advocate for diversity.
While many other products accessible on the Japanese market are targeted towards ethnic Japanese, MUKOOMI is different, with Priyanka’s first-hand experience being mixed-race, she’s created a line that’s tailored to both Japanese and background-diverse customers.
MUKOOMI’s ethos is based around inclusivity and diversity. The brand is small, transparent and independently-run, which means if you have any questions or concerns, you can speak to the creators directly. We care about you as an individual and a friend, not just another customer.
